We’re excited to share that MWLabs has been spotlighted in a Hackaday article titled “8-Core ARM Pocket Computer Runs NixOS”, published July 17, 2025. You can read the full piece here: Hackaday article.

The feature covers our experiment where we repurpose a OnePlus 6 phone (8 ARM cores, 8 GB RAM) into a tiny Linux machine running NixOS — the same configuration we use on desktop, now mobile.

Some highlights:

  • We use a Mobile-NixOS flake, enabling us to bring over all the same application setups from desktop to phone.
  • Some things are still in progress: 4G doesn’t work yet, and the rear camera isn’t supported at this point. But with the foundation in place (and building upon PostMarketOS), those are items on the horizon.

We’re proud of this recognition – it underscores what MWLabs is all about: pushing convergence between desktop and mobile, experimenting openly, and exploring what’s possible when you tinker at the intersection of hardware & free software.
